The Role of Astrocytes, Circadian Rhythms, and Light Pollution in the Pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s Disease

The interaction of cerebral neurons with astrocytes is currently of increasing importance in studies of the pathogenesis of diseases of the brain and will remain important in future for the development of methods for the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of neurodegenerative brain diseases. This review seeks to demonstrate the role of astrocytes, circadian rhythm disorders, sleep–wake patterns, and light pollution in the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Analysis of published data suggests possible mechanisms for the synchronization and desynchronization of these processes.
