<p>Sedimentary phosphates are valuable resources primarily used to produce fertilizers, playing a critical role in agriculture while also offering insights into Earth’s geological history. However, their extraction and use pose significant environmental challenges. This bibliometric analysis examined research trends related to sedimentary phosphates in Earth System Science from 1980 to November 18, 2024, with particular focus on the last 5 years to identify active authors, institutions, and emerging themes. In total, 3,647 journal articles were retrieved from the Scopus database for the specified period. The United States, China, and Germany emerged as the top three countries by publication volume. Notably, China produced the highest number of publications in the last 5 years. Over the entire study period, the leading authors were Chien S. H., Baturin G. N., and Hedley M. J., while Fan H., Elghali A., and Xia Y. were the most prominent authors in the last 5 years. The top three journals for the entire period were <i>Nutrient Cycling In Agroecosystems</i>, <i>Communications In Soil Science And Plant Analysis</i>, and <i>Chemical Geology</i>, whereas <i>Minerals</i>, <i>Environmental Science And Pollution Research</i>, and <i>Precambrian Research</i> led in the last 5 years. The findings highlight key research hotspots, including pollution and risk assessment of heavy metals associated with sedimentary phosphates, the use of rare earth elements as paleoenvironment proxies, and the potential of sedimentary phosphates as a source of these elements. Future research should prioritize interdisciplinary approaches to better understand ecological impacts, enhance resource extraction efficiency, and develop sustainable mining practices.</p>
