The incoherent stress of Kuikuro

We present an analysis of stress and tone in Kuikuro (Cariban) at the word and phrase levels. Metrically, iambs are assigned left-to-right, with final trochaic reversal. Tone surfaces on the rightmost syllable in a domain that includes the primary stress of the phrase and any following unstressed syllables, i.e., a tone that is a correlate of stress may appear displaced from its stressed syllable.
