Enhancing data security with advanced dual-layer DNA steganography
摘要
The security of digital information is a paramount concern in today’s world. One of the most effective methods for ensuring secrecy is steganography, which involves concealing data within a cover object without arousing suspicion. In this work, we propose a dual-layer information hiding mechanism, which consists of hiding sensitive data within two cover objects, combining DNA and images. The proposed approach focuses on safeguarding secrecy with a high embedding capacity. It aims to first conceal secret messages within DNA sequences using a modified LSBase substitution method and apply compression methods to reduce the resulting stego DNA. Secondly, the generated stego DNA is embedded within an image using the LSB method, along with random number sequences to toggle between different channels of the image. Besides, we use a 4D hyperchaotic sequence to select embedding locations across different pixels of the image, enhancing the randomness and unpredictability of the generated stego image. Through experimentation and analysis, the proposed approach demonstrates a high embedding capacity while preserving similarity between cover image and stego image, thereby ensuring effective concealment of sensitive information. High imperceptibility ratios, measured by PSNR and MSE, attest to the quality of our approach.
