<p>This study presents a&#xa0;method for the preparation of pyrite cinders for reductive smelting, a&#xa0;process used to extract an iron-based alloy. The investigation centered on the behavior of copper in the resulting alloy (pig iron) and in the smelting by-product, the slag. The results demonstrate the feasibility of selectively reducing copper without concomitant iron reduction.</p>
