<p>In the early years of his philosophy, Alexandre Kojève wrote on the role of Divine Wisdom, or Sophia, in the works of the Russian religious philosopher Vladimir Solov’ev. With the recent discovery and publication of Kojève’s Russian-language known as the Sophia manuscript, the philosopher’s engagement with theological Sophia and feminine Wisdom has taken on new prominence, as this concept seems to be central to Kojève's philosophical interests. This article examines Kojève's engagement with the notion of Sophia in various stages of his development as a philosopher. It does so in particular through his debt owed to Alexandre Koyré, who served as a mentor to Kojève and who wrote an influential monograph on Jakob Boehme and his work on Sophia.</p>
