<p>Richard Kearney’s work on embodiment, narrative, the roles of host and guest, and his philosophy of the earth come together in his latest novel, <i>Salvage</i>, the story of a young woman inheriting ancient wisdom and confronting the modern world in 1940s Ireland. The movement of thought between the novel and Kearney’s recently published philosophical dialogues (<i>Anacarnation</i>, <i>Hosting Earth</i>) is seamless, but themes of migration, the global, and the local that were part of earlier conversations surface here too. <i>Salvage</i> is a moving reflection on a time and place shaped by global histories of colonization and settlement but remains a time and place like no other.</p>
