The influence of technological expansion operation on mechanical characteristics and crack growth resistance of the metal of welded straight-seam pipes
摘要
The technological operation of expanding welded straight-seam pipes has a positive influence on their mechanical strength and crack growth resistance. The yield stress of the metal increases by approximately 8% with a slight change in ultimate tensile stress, relative elongation, relative area reduction, and impact toughness, for the metal in the heat-affected zone of the expanded pipe. At the same time, the material resistance to crack-like defects development increases, and regardless of the distance from the weld, the fatigue crack growth rate is always lower for the metal of the expanded pipe compared to similar cases for the unexpanded pipe.
