<p>This study aimed to verify whether high (HBAT) and low brown adipose tissue (LBAT) activity athletes show acute differences in energy expenditure during and after aerobic exercise with caffeine intake (CAF) or placebo (PLA). For this, a total of 34 football athletes (HBAT = 14) were evaluated in an acute <i>quasi</i>-experimental and case-controlled double-blind design. BAT activity was estimated by infrared thermography. All participants were separated and compared into four groups and conditions: (a) HBAT-CAF; (b) HBAT-PLA; (c) LBAT-CAF and (d) LBAT-PLA. All participants performed 30-min of aerobic exercise (70–80% of reserve Heartrate) and 30-min of passive recovery. We performed a breath-to-breath spirometry analysis and measured the energy expenditure (EE), carbohydrates (g/day), fats (g/day) and proteins (g/day) during exercise + recovery. The main results indicate that HBAT demonstrated a higher EE at all measurement moments (<i>p</i> ≤ 0.04) except 30&#xa0;min (<i>p</i> = 0.2) with CAF intake, and at all measurement moments in PLA condition (<i>p</i> ≤ 0.047) except at 30&#xa0;min (<i>p</i> = 0.093) and 60&#xa0;min (<i>p</i> = 0.43). HBAT presented a significant difference for fat catabolism compared to LBAT at 0&#xa0;min with CAF intake [99.6&#xa0;g/day (45.7; 151.5); <i>p</i> ≤ 0.001], and for PLA condition at 0&#xa0;min [70.3&#xa0;g/day (17.9; 122.7); <i>p</i> = 0.009], 10&#xa0;min [80.0&#xa0;g/day (20.5; 139.4); <i>p</i> = 0.009] and 20&#xa0;min [70.9&#xa0;g/day (8.7; 133.1); <i>p</i> = 0.026]. In conclusion, HBAT athletes demonstrated higher energy EE and fat catabolism compared to LBAT, and this difference is more pronounced following CAF intake.</p>
