摘要

This research investigates the hydration behavior and cementitious properties of a mixture of calcium aluminate and calcium sulfate and explores whether it can be adopted as a new expansive cement material to compensate for shrinkage. The systems composed of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) and residual gypsum from flue gas desulfurization (FGD) are studied by measuring the heat of hydration, setting time, compressive and flexural strength, linear expansion, and the components of the formed hydration products. 30% FGD provided an expansion rate of 80%, a 20% increase in compressive strength, a 16% reduction in porosity, and the formation of the main expansive product, ettringite. In the mixture with 30% FGD replacing CAC, 37% of the formed hydration products was ettringite. The results confirm that the CAC-FGD system has cementitious properties that meet all the technical requirements of ASTM C845 for an expansive cement and also show the positive impact of a new source of calcium sulfate, FGD gypsum, on the properties of calcium aluminate cement.
