Analysis of bipyridine derivatives by calorimetry and thermogravimetry: a thermochemical perspective
摘要
This study investigates the thermochemical properties of four bipyridines: 2,2'-bipyridine, 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine, 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine and 2,2'-bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, utilizing calorimetric and thermal analysis methods. Differential scanning calorimetry was employed to determine fusion temperatures and fusion enthalpies. Specific combustion energies were measured using static bomb semi-micro-combustion calorimetry, allowing for the calculation of enthalpies of formation in the condensed phase. Additionally, isothermal thermogravimetry was used to ascertain the rate of mass loss as a function of temperature, from which enthalpies of sublimation were derived. These properties facilitated the calculation of gaseous phase enthalpies of formation at T = 298.15 K for the four compounds.
