<p>The involvement of phase change materials (PCMs) in thermal energy storage (TES) and thermal energy conversion (TEC) systems is drastically growing day by day. The modern scientific revolution brings opportunities for research scholars to find various PCM composites to minimize difficulties in heat energy utilization techniques. In this regard, the present comprehensive study reviews the latest research findings in phase change material development and their involvement in TES and TEC systems. This study explored around 150 recent literature based on thermal energy storage systems, thermal energy conversion systems and advanced composite PCMs. Some recent advancements in PCM composite were also summarized and listed in a table for ease of understanding and better vision toward reliable active PCM-based green energy. Therefore, this study may be helpful for research scholars who need a brief look at recent studies on composite PCMs and their applications in TES and TEC systems.</p>
