Enhanced thermal performance of a solar assisted semi-cylindrical desalination system using different nano-paints coated on absorber: an experimental investigation

In this study, the author intends to investigate the productivity and efficiency of semi-cylindrical solar stills (SCSS) using various coatings applied to the SCSS. Different coatings are applied to the absorber plate, and their performances are compared. The stills are coated with conventional black paint (Case 1), 1 mass% GNP's dispersed black paint (Case 2), 2 mass% GNP's dispersed black paint (Case 3), 1 mass% graphene dispersed acrylic paint and black paint (Case 4), and 2 mass% graphene dispersed acrylic paint and black paint (Case 5). The findings show that Case 5 provides a better cumulative productivity of 4211 mL, whereas case 1, 2, 3 and 4 provides 3610, 3790, 3889, and 4071 mL only. This cumulative productivity of case 5 is 16.64, 11.10, 8.27, and 3.43% higher than other cases 1, 2, 3, and 4. The average efficiency of Case 5 is 65.63%, this average efficiency value is 16.57, 13.62, 9.52, and 4.52% higher than other cases 1, 2, 3, and 4. The average evaporative heat transfer coefficient value of Case 5 is 21.77%, 12.82%, 8.83%, and 5.07% higher than Cases 1, 2, 3, and 4.
