Facile synthesis of Mesoporous TiO2/NiFe2O4 nanocomposite integrated on MWCNTs for contaminated water treatment

In this study, we report for the first time that methyl orange (MO) dye can be efficiently adsorbed using functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) decorated with mesoporous titanium dioxide (MTiO2) and nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4). The addition of MWCNTs to the TiO2/NiFe2O4 composite significantly enhanced the dye adsorption capacity. Notably, the adsorption efficiency varied with the MWCNT content, with the (MTiO2/NiFe2O4)/70 wt.%MWCNT nanocomposite exhibiting the highest activity. After 120 min, this nanocomposite achieved 98% methyl orange removal, which is approximately 1.8 times more effective than the (MTiO2/NiFe2O4)/40 wt.% MWCNT composite, and nearly two orders of magnitude higher than the binary MTiO2/NiFe2O4 composite without MWCNTs. Furthermore, the nanocomposite can be regenerated and reused through photodegradation under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Overall, the excellent performance of the MTiO2/NiFe2O4/MWCNT composite in removing methyl orange demonstrates its potential as a reusable system for dye removal, paving the way for further application of MWCNT-based materials in water purification.
