Thirty years of neutron activation analysis at the HANARO research reactor: progress and future perspectives

The HANARO Research Reactor has played a significant role in the advancement of Neutron Activation Analysis (NAA) over the past three decades, evolving into a world-class platform for multidisciplinary applications. This review summarizes the major scientific and technological achievements in NAA at HANARO from 1996 to 2026. Key developments include the establishment of instrumental NAA infrastructure, development of prompt gamma activation analysis, delayed NAA, neutron depth profile, and implementation of k0-standardization methods. Continuous improvements in detector systems, automation, and computational tools have enhanced analytical accuracy and reliability, supporting applications in environmental science, reference materials characterization, archaeometry, semiconductor technology, and nuclear safeguards.
