Strengthening nuclear analytical capabilities in Algeria through the k₀-INAA method
摘要
The k₀-standardized Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (k₀-INAA) is a powerful nuclear analytical technique enabling accurate, simultaneous multielement determination with high sensitivity and precision, without element-specific standards. In Algeria, its development has been closely linked to the operation of research reactors, which provide the necessary neutron fluxes for nuclear analytical sciences. Fundamental parameters—including neutron flux characterization (f and α), irradiation protocols, and validation against certified reference materials—have been established under local conditions. Applications span environmental monitoring, materials characterization, geology, food safety, and biomedical studies. This paper presents an overview of k₀-INAA implementation progress and selected case studies at Algerian research reactors.
