Effect of foliar-applied calcium on the foliar uptake of cesium in rice shoots and its translocation to brown rice
摘要
Crops can uptake radioactive Cs released from nuclear facilities through foliar uptake. In this study, by regularly spraying a solution containing stable Cs and varying Ca concentrations on rice shoots during the vegetative stage, we examined the effect of foliar application of Ca on the foliar uptake of Cs in rice plants and its subsequent translocation to brown rice. Cs concentration in the shoots and brown rice decreased by up to 25% and 41% in the 30 mM Ca treatment compared to the Cs-only treatment, respectively, suggesting that Ca application suppresses foliar uptake and translocation of Cs.
