Application of instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) with a californium neutron source for the determination of valuable metals in black shales of the Baltic Paleobasin
摘要
Instrumental neutron activation analysis using a californium-252 neutron source (252Cf INAA) was applied for multi-element analysis of Dictyonema Shales from the Baltic Paleobasin. The method enabled rapid, precise determination of V, Mo, Sc, several rare earth elements (REEs: La, Sm, Eu, Dy), Au, and U in 54 samples without complex preparation. Their concentrations exceeded the respective Clarke values by factors of 3 to 35., with uranium enrichment driving high natural radioactivity (Raₑq up to 1734 Bq kg⁻1). A strong correlation (r = 0.95) between INAA-derived U and gamma-spectrometric 226Ra confirmed analytical accuracy. Inter-element correlations (U–V–Mo–REEs) indicate co-enrichment and metallogenic potential.
