Determination of the angular distribution of the muon flux by using plastic scintillator spectrum deconvolution

On the Earth’s surface, muons are the largest component of cosmic radiation. In the detector (100 × 50 × 5 cm3) with significant asymmetry the muon interaction length varies and similarly the deposited energy and depends mainly on the angle of incidence of the muon. Using the deconvolution (SAND II code) of the measured spectrum, the angular distribution of the muon flux at the measurement location can be determined. To obtain the response matrix, we used Monte Carlo simulations (MCNPX code) with the energy distribution obtained from EXPACs calculated using the PARMA model for the Bratislava geographic location.
