Measurement of moisture content in recycled cardboards using neutron backscattering technique
摘要
To address the issue of moisture in the cardboard recycling industry, a neutron backscattering gauge was applied. By calculating the mean neutron free path in cardboard, it was deduced that the neutron backscattering method is applicable for thicknesses below 27 cm. The results obtained show a strong correlation between thermal neutron backscattering and the addition of water to the cardboard. Accordingly, the established calibration curve confirmed and validated the assessment of moisture from backscattered neutrons. The present work demonstrates that the neutron backscattering technique is an effective non-destructive method for use in the cardboard recycling industry.
