<p>The activity concentrations of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) in coal and coal combustion residues (CCRs) were determined employing low-level gamma-ray spectrometry. The activity concentrations of the NORM radionuclides present in coal and CCRs samples studied were found to be significantly higher than the world average values reported by United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR). The radiological hazard assessment based on the data obtained in the present work points out to long-term radiological implications for workers and the public living in an and around coal fired power plants.</p>
