Utility of low specific activity 90Y produced in a medium flux research reactor in the preparation of radioactive patch for the treatment of skin ailments
摘要
The article discusses the application of low-specific-activity ⁹⁰Y [T½ = 64.1 h, Eβ-(max) = 2.28 MeV] in the preparation of radioactive patch sources for the treatment of superficial skin conditions, particularly keloids. Yttrium-90 was produced with 688 ± 41 MBq/mg specific activity and > 99.9% radionuclide purity in a medium flux research reactor. A simple and reproducible method was established to prepare radioactive patch sources, incorporating 92 ± 8 MBq of 90Y in each source with uniform distribution of radioactivity, without any surface contamination and almost no leaching of radioactivity. Preliminary investigations with developed sources in recalcitrant keloids showed promising outcome.
