Possible applications of zeolite rocks in the nuclear waste field
摘要
Results of a preliminary study conducted on the zeolite rocks located north of Cold Well Dam, Bulgaria are presented in the paper. In orographic aspect the area covers the central parts of Eastern Rhodopes, Balkan Peninsula. In the period 1974–1982 some large deposits of clinoptilolite zeolitized pyroclastics were under exploration (Beli plast, Gorna krepost, Most, Golobradovo, Belia bair and Zhelezni vrata, etc.) and also a subject of interest was mordenite—in the region of Lyaskovets village. The quantity of the zeolitized material in these deposits varies from tens to some hundred millions tons. Our research shows the presence of manganese hydroxides in the pale greenish clinoptilolite zeolites from the "Beli Plast" deposit, forming thin crusts with a thickness of several mm, impregnations and dendritic aggregates with a black, and in some cases black-brown color in places.
