<p>This review describes the major technical approaches (in their approximate order of development) which have been devised to tritium label natural products. Specific topics include: an overview of tritium labelling strategy, the early Wilzbach tritiation, later alternate tritium exchange methods, catalytic tritium aromatic dehalogenation, catalytic olefin and alkyne tritium reduction, sodium borotritide reduction, use of [<sup>3</sup>H] methyl iodide and iridium catalyzed tritiation. Future directions for this continuing field are also proposed.</p>
