Coordinative property and extractive ability of a Quinolinic Schiff base derivative towards Th (IV) ions: complex and extract characterisation
摘要
This study aimed to synthesise and characterise a Th(IV) complex formed with the Schiff base quinolinic ligand (L1), using an aqueous-organic method and to study the extraction ability of L1 in chloroform towards Th(IV) in aqueous-acid-saline media. The thorium complex revealed IR and UV-VIS spectra that demonstrate its formation, UV-VIS showed a new band at 488 nm (LMCT). A neutral Th(IV) complex with two L1 ligands and one water molecule coordinated to the Th(IV) centre is proposed (CN of 9). 9 × 10–4 M of L1 extracts 98% of Th(IV) from 1.19 × 10–4 M thorium nitrate/1 mM HNO3/0.25 M NaNO3 medium with a D = 29, in a 1Th:2L1 stoichiometry. This asymmetrical heterocyclic ligand is an excellent coordinating and extracting agent for Th(IV).
