Research insights of argillaceous-based site for high-level radioactive waste disposal in China

This article systematically reviews the process and main insights of the argillaceous-based site for high-level radioactive waste (HLW) disposal purpose in China for the first time. In the currently planning and site selection stage, two pre-selected sections in Tamusu pre-selected area in Inner Mongolia and the Tamusu mudstone mainly composited of analcime and dolomite are recommended for HLW and intermediate level long-life radioactive waste disposal purpose. Strengthening international cooperation and detailed evaluations are important to consolidate the foundation of argillaceous-based site selection for China’s HLW deep geological repository.
