Research on Creativity of Students in Integrated STEM Education: A Scoping Review
摘要
Promoting student creativity is one of the key objectives of integrated STEM education. Despite the increased number of studies on integrated STEM education, it remains unclear how STEM education researchers have defined creativity and what the current state of creativity research in this field is. There is a need to map out the current state of research on creativity in integrated STEM. This scoping review systematically examined how creativity has been conceptualized, factors or processes affecting it, and fostered within integrated STEM education by reviewing 47 empirical studies and conducting a meta-analysis of 15 experimental or quasi-experimental studies (within the 47 studies). The following aspects have been examined: (a) definitions and conceptualization of creativity, (b) factors or processes identified as influencing students’ creativity, and (c) interventions and their effectiveness in enhancing students’ creativity. This scoping review has identified both the progress and gaps in the current literature. Specifically, there is an urgent need to define the construct of creativity in integrated STEM, create and validate standardized measurement instruments based on this definition, analyse related factors, and develop effective intervention measures.
