Assessment Practices for Developmental Dyslexia in Morocco: An Exploratory Survey of Speech-Language Pathologists and Perspectives for an Arabic-Specific Battery
摘要
In the bilingual educational context of Morocco, where Arabic and French coexist, the assessment of developmental dyslexia poses specific methodological challenges. This exploratory study aims to document the current practices of Moroccan speech-language pathologists in the diagnosis and screening of reading disorders. A questionnaire was distributed to 45 practitioners across various regions of the country. Data analysis highlights a predominant reliance on standardized French-language tests combined with clinician-designed protocols. The near-total absence of standardized tools in Arabic is identified as a major limitation, hindering equitable diagnostic practices for Arabic-speaking children. These findings form part of a broader research initiative leading to the development of ARADYS, a culturally grounded Arabic dyslexia assessment battery tailored to the Moroccan context. Keywords: dyslexia, assessment, speech-language pathology, bilingualism, Morocco, Arabic, ARADYS, exploratory study
