Enhanced Photocatalytic and Antimicrobial Activity of Zn Doped TiO2 Thin Films Synthesized via Sol-Gel Dip Coating Method
摘要
Increasing concerns over water pollution and microbial contamination pose significant environmental and health challenges. In this study, Zn doped TiO2 thin films were successfully synthesized by sol-gel dip coating method to address these issues. Structural, morphological and optical properties of thin films were studied using GIXRD, XPS, FE-SEM, AFM, profilometry, UV-Vis spectrophotometery, PL and zeta potential measurements. Photocatalytic efficiency of thin films was evaluated under sunlight using methylene blue dye. More than 85% degradation was obtained in all the films within 1.5 h and 0.7 wt% Zn doped TiO2 thin film showed the highest degradation efficiency. Scavenger test revealed that holes were the dominant reactive species. Furthermore, optimised film exhibited strong antimicrobial activity, achieving 87% inactivation of gram negative (E. coli) and 99% inactivation of gram positive (S. aureus) pathogens within 1 h. These results highlight the potential of Zn doped TiO2 thin films as efficient multifunctional materials for environmental remediation and antimicrobial applications.
