Exfoliated Tungsten Disulfide-Polypyrrole Nanocomposites

Exfoliated tungsten disulfide-polypyrrole nanocomposites were synthesized via an in-situ polymerization method and characterized by techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, Seebeck coefficient, and electronic conductivity measurements. The electronic conductivity was found to decrease as the mass % of tungsten disulfide (WS2) in the nanocomposites was increased. The Seebeck coefficients on the synthesized materials were small and positive, suggesting that the bulk polypyrrole and synthesized nanocomposites were p-type conductors. Addition of WS2 to the polypyrrole showed no changes in thermal stability. This paper is the first to explore the electronic conductivity and thermopower properties of exfoliated tungsten disulfide-polypyrrole nanocomposites.
