Two Steps Growth of Single Particle Composite Zeolite Imidazole Framework Coating at Room Temperature for Enhanced Antibacterial Performance

In the last decade, ZIF-8 and ZIF-67 have attracted much attentions as antibacterial materials. ZIF-8 has good biocompatibility and antibacterial function of E. coli for its metal centers Zn2+. And S. aureus could be inhibited more easily by ZIF-67 of Co2+ center. So, composite zeolite imidazole framework coating was synthesized using two steps growth method to prepare a new antibacterial agent. Other the main two kinds control samples were also prepared under the same synthetic conditions with smaller crystals and a mechanical mixture wearing positive zeta potential. The antibacterial efficiency of the composite ZIF coating is not only higher than ZIF-8 against E. coli (100% in 15 h using phosphate (PBS) but also higher than ZIF-67 against S. aureus (100% in 15 h using phosphate (PBS) at the same time. The materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, AAS, N2 adsorption isotherms and pore size distribution, and the potential broad-spectrum antibacterial mechanisms was explored, too.
