Place attachment and its relationship with residential satisfaction in traditional neighborhoods: the case of Haft Chenar neighborhood
摘要
In recent decades, urban living conditions have deteriorated, raising concerns about the connection between individuals and their environments. This study explores the concepts of place attachment and residential satisfaction, which are essential for understanding the human–environment relationship and cultivating vibrant communities. Although many studies have explored the relationship between these two concepts in different disciplines, research focusing on traditional neighborhood contexts remains limited. Therefore, the objectives of this study are twofold: first, to identify which dimension of place attachment (PA) is regarded as the most significant for its development in traditional neighborhoods; and second, to examine the relationship between place attachment and residential satisfaction (RS) within these communities. Utilizing Structural Equation Modeling, we analyzed survey data from 687 respondents in Tehran’s Haft Chenar neighborhood. The results reveal that among the four dimensions of place attachment, the social bond to the place scores highest, while place identity scores lowest. Moreover, the model shows a positive and significant relationship between place attachment and residential satisfaction. This suggests that urban planners and policymakers should prioritize community engagement initiatives that foster place attachment to enhance overall residential satisfaction in traditional neighborhoods.
