Experiences of Adults with Motor Disabilities who Practice Adapted Sports: A Qualitative Study on Quality of Life and Personal Development

Individuals with motor disabilities face numerous challenges, including active participation in society. Adapted sports may emerge as a tool for rehabilitation but also aim to promote social inclusion and active participation. Objective: The aim of the study was to explore the impact of participation in adapted sports on the quality of life and personal development of adults with motor disabilities in Argentina. Methods: This study adopted a cross-sectional qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 17 individuals with congenital or acquired motor disabilities who participated in both individual and group sports. Results: results showed a positive impact of participation in adapted sports on various aspects of quality of life, particularly social aspects. In turn, sports participation had an impact on the development of personal factors such as identity, autonomy, and goal setting. Conclusions: These results emphasize the importance of promoting sports participation among people with disabilities to promote quality of life and personal development.
