摘要

In the late June 2022, low sea surface temperature (SST) spot was observed in the coastal region off Boso Peninsula, Japan. This study quantitatively investigated low SST spot formation processes using 2-km resolution ocean model. We found that the low SST was caused by southwesterly winds which enhanced vertical mixing in the upper ocean and induced coastal upwelling along the east coast of Boso Peninsula. Further, using meteorological observations in Japan Islands, we suggested that the oceanic cool spot impacts the surface air temperature in the coastal area of the Boso Peninsula.
