<p>The Emotionality Activity and Sociability Temperament Survey (EAS) is one of the most widely used measures to assess temperament in young children. However, there is a lack of psychometric assessment of instruments applied in the Nordic countries in general, especially for the youngest children. Thus, the aim of the current study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the EAS in a sample of young preschoolers in Norway rated by early childhood education and care professionals. Based on data from 1,476 children (mean age = 21 months; 51% boys), the four factors measuring emotionality, activity, sociability, and shyness indicated satisfactory internal consistency in general, however, a confirmatory factor analysis of the four-factor structure yielded a poor model fit. Possible reasons for the poor model fit are discussed, as the EAS, in its current form, is not a reliable instrument for use in early childhood education and care settings with children under three years of age.</p>
