Measurement of nonlinear refractive index, figure of merit, coupling factor of pure adipic acid crystals by Z-scan technique using continuous wave Nd:YAG laser
摘要
The third-order nonlinear optical property of centrosymmetric adipic acid crystals grown from methanol solvent was superior than grown with water solvent. The harvested adipic acid crystal size is 10 X 7 X 6 mm3. Nonlinear refractive index and other Z-scan parameters were examined on pure adipic crystals by Z-scan method using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser at 532 nm. A closed aperture Z-scan with a positive value of nonlinear refractive index with peak-to-valley profile due to primary effect of nonlinear absorption reverses and counteracts the expected valley to peak pattern induced by nonlinear refraction. Further, nonlinear refractive index n2 is positive with peak-to-valley profile may be due to the fifth-order nonlinear refractive index and leads to a change in the sign of the overall nonlinear refraction. Nonlinear refractive index n2, nonlinear absorption coefficient β, real and imaginary part of χ(3), and third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3) have been evaluated at 532 nm and were found to be 3.70411 X 10–10 cm/W, 1.9023 X 10−5 cm/W, 2.64 X 10–8 esu, 5.79332 X 10−7esu, and 5.8 X10−7esu, respectively. The coupling factor P and figure of merit T of adipic acid crystal were computed as 21.94 and 0.0275 (T < < 1). The low value of figure of merit indicates that the grown material is suitable for optical switching and photonics applications. The laser power damage threshold density was found to be superior than grown with water solvent. The computed value of laser damage threshold density is 11.698 GW/cm2.
