<p>Organic material of ethyl-p-hydroxybenzoate (EPHB) was grown as a single crystal of dimensions 13 × 8 × 2 mm<sup>3</sup> through the solution growth method. The host crystal was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis, and photoluminescence analysis to explore its crystal structure and optical characteristics. A table top shock tube setup was implemented for shock wave generation of Mach number 1.7. Then the sample was exposed to these shock waves and was characterized again by the above-mentioned techniques to observe any variation in optical properties like transmittance and bandgap of the crystal due to interaction with shock wave. Surface morphology of EPHB was examined using optical microscope before and after the application of the shock wave to observe changes in its surface morphology.</p>
