<p>BaO–Bi<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>–B<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> glasses doped with 0, 1, 5, 10, and 15% Nd concentrations were successfully synthesized by the melt-quenching technique. The obtained samples exhibited photoluminescence and scintillation in the near-infrared region. The photoluminescence and the scintillation of the samples originated from 4f–4f transitions of Nd<sup>3+</sup>. The 5% Nd-doped sample exhibited the highest scintillation intensity among all the obtained samples. The lower detection limit of X-ray dose rate was 0.1&#xa0;Gy/h, which was obtained with the 5% Nd-doped sample.</p>
