Spectroscopic, thermal, electrical, and nonlinear optical investigation of benzimidazolium cyanoacetate single crystals for optoelectronics device applications

In the present investigation, a high-quality single crystal of BMZC was obtained by slow evaporation and its structural organization was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The distinct vibrations and functional groups of the crystal have been identified via FTIR spectroscopy. The properties of absorbance and transparency were investigated using UV–Vis spectrum analysis. Photoluminescence studies were conducted to investigate the emission properties of the crystals, with an emphasis on the UV region. The thermal stability of the BMZC was evaluated using TG-DTA analysis to look at its behavior in relation to temperatures. Several vibrational frequencies were used in the dielectric studies to examine the crystal’s dielectric characteristics. The Vickers microhardness test was used to assess the crystal’s mechanical properties. The Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) was utilized to determine the laser damaging limit of crystals. Using the Z-scan approach, we simultaneously determine the nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) and nonlinear refractive index (n2) for both open and closed aperture configurations, respectively.
