摘要

Glutathione, a vital antioxidant, is often limited by its rapid degradation in the gastrointestinal tract. This study introduces innovative four-layer furcellaran–chitosan microcapsules as a potential solution. By encapsulating glutathione, these microcapsules aim to protect the compound from degradation and deliver it efficiently to target tissues. Results from Wistar rats demonstrated a significant increase in serum glutathione levels when administered with encapsulated glutathione. Furthermore, the microcapsules effectively enhanced the activity and gene expression of antioxidant enzymes, suggesting improved antioxidant status. Importantly, no adverse effects were observed on liver or kidney function, indicating the safety of this approach. These findings suggest that glutathione encapsulated in furcellaran–chitosan microcapsules could be a promising strategy for supplementing glutathione deficiencies and potentially combating oxidative stress-related diseases.
