<p>The first application of the Claisen rearrangement of resorcinarene derivatives is described. Optimisation of this reaction allowed the preparation of gram-quantities of the Claisen-rearranged product in yields greater than 80% over two simple synthetic steps from the parent resorcinarenes. Microwave assisted solventless rearrangement was also investigated. These novel resorcinarenes have been characterized by crystallographic methods, in addition to the standard spectroscopic techniques.</p>
