<p>This paper examines three kinds of Japanese clausal anaphors; <i>sore</i>, <i>soo</i>, and null clausal anaphora. I focus mainly on three factors to see some basic properties of the clausal anaphors; (i) types of clausal antecedents, (ii) factivity, and (iii) subcategorization frames of clause-embedding predicates. To explain the observations about the clausal anaphors, I propose that each of the Japanese clausal anaphors can be analyzed as two distinct types. Although the multifunctional nature of Japanese clausal anaphors complicates their distributions, a systematic division of labor exists among them.</p>
