摘要

Existing research has acknowledged the contribution of leisure to youth’s healthy development. Leisure experience has been associated with positive mental health. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has constrained youth leisure opportunities. This systematic review sought to understand the changes that youth leisure has undergone due to Covid-19 and how these changes are related to youth mental health. We followed the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The search included four databases and 8 articles were considered eligible for review. A qualitative synthesis was used to identify key concepts and themes. The results show that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought more leisure time, decreased satisfaction with leisure and physical activity. A mental health perspective prevailed in most studies and leisure was mentioned as a protective factor or a coping strategy. Social activity, leisure, sports, and physical activity were strongly correlated with well-being dimensions. Suggestions were made on specific leisure features that should be enhanced and further investigated to promote mental well-being within a similar pandemic. We conclude on the relevance of promoting youth leisure as a mental health protective factor that assures positive and healthy developmental pathways during times of crisis.
