Luminescence of Europium(III) Hexafluoroacetylacetonate and Trifluoroacetate with 2,2'-dipyridyl

Crystalline luminescent complexes of europium(III) with hexafluoroacetylacetone, trifluoroacetic acid, and 2,2'-dipyridyl were obtained. The luminescence properties and kinetics of the photodecomposition of these complexes in high-pressure polyethylene were studied. The complex of europium(III) with 2,2'-dipyridyl was shown to have greater photostability. The photoluminescence spectra were shown to result from f–f transitions of the europium(III) ion.
