<p>The monostromatic genera <i>Monostroma</i> Thuret, <i>Gayralia</i> Vinogradova, and <i>Protomonostroma</i> Vinogradova of order Ulotrichales are collectively known as the <i>Monostroma</i> complex. Among these, the genus <i>Gayralia</i> with its three species (<i>G</i>. <i>brasiliensis</i>, <i>G</i>. <i>kuroshiensis</i> and <i>G</i>. <i>oxysperma</i>) is widely distributed across a broad range of marine and estuarine habitats, from arctic to tropics. In India <i>G</i>. <i>brasiliensis</i> (previously known as <i>Monostroma oxyspermum</i>), in particular, has substantial potential for seaweed aquaculture owing to its broad environmental tolerance and valuable nutritional profile. In the present study, <i>G. brasiliensis</i> was grown in 1000-L outdoor tanks from October 2023 to June 2024 using vegetative thalli as seedlings. Growth parameters i.e., initial seedling density, and nutrients (KNO<sub>3</sub>, K<sub>2</sub>HPO<sub>4</sub>, KHCO<sub>3</sub>, MP1 Metal stock), were first optimized under controlled laboratory conditions before being applied to outdoor tank cultivation. Seasonal variations were found to significantly influence algal growth. The winter season had the highest biomass productivity and specific growth rate (11.61 ± 0.63 –12.81 ± 1.07&#xa0;g FW m<sup>−2</sup>&#xa0;day<sup>−1</sup>; 6.51 ± 0.16 – 6.81 ± 0.04% day<sup>−1</sup>), followed by the summer (8.13 ± 0.29 – 11.59 ± 0.06&#xa0;g FW m<sup>−2</sup>&#xa0;day<sup>−1</sup>; 5.30 ± 0.10 – 6.39 ± 0.02% day<sup>−1</sup>). <i>G</i>. <i>brasiliensis</i> was found to be an ideal candidate for land-based tank cultivation due to its simple morphology and rapid vegetative propagation in a free-floating manner.</p>
