Factors Affecting Water Ethics Principles from the Perspective of Farmers in Lordegan Township, Iran
摘要
Water is the main limiting factor in terms of quantity and quality in agricultural production. The sharp decline in groundwater resources due to inappropriate farming practices, over-exploitation, and Water crisis operators’ lack of seriousness will aggravate the crisis. This may ultimately lead to water panic. The main objective of the research is to study the factors that influence water ethics from farmers’ perspective. Through library-based research methods research indicators and variables were identified and a questionnaire was designed to collect the required data. Out of a total statistical population of 17,450 farmers in Lordegan Township, 219 farmers were selected using the Cochran formula and a multi-stage random sampling method. The results of the study showed that the farmers who were studied had a high average age and were illiterate. Farmers were also familiar with ethical principles and believed that these principles were well known. Although farmers knew that water extraction from underground aquifers was unethical, in reality, more than half of them performed this type of harvesting. In general, it can be said that there is a gap between the value and practice of ethical principles, a gap that is itself controversial. The results of the present study can help to better understand the reasons behind farmers’ behavior when facing water ethics principles.
