Stress Distribution in Stress Concentration Zones of Butt-Welded Joint with Displaced Axes of Symmetry of Opposite Weld Convexities

An enhanced analytical method for determining the stresses in the stress concentration zones of butt-welded joint under axial tension has been proposed. The method is based upon the hypothesis of broken sections, with an improvement that accounts for the displacement of the axes of symmetry in the opposite convexities of the weld. This displacement creates stress concentrators that mutually influence each other. The stresses along the contour of the transition zones from the weld to the base metal for a specific welded joint have been calculated.
