Assessment Features of Effect of Loading Asymmetry on Fatigue Resistance and Cyclic Durability of Structural Materials*

The possibility of developing an express method for assessing the limit state of structural materials under asymmetric loading based on fatigue tests with a symmetric cycle is studied. The possibility of assessing the effect on durability with high accuracy of the values of the static component corresponding only to plastic materials is determined. Brittle low plastic materials are very sensitive to loading asymmetry, which makes it impossible to assess the impact of the static component on the durability of such materials. In this case, the accuracy of approximate calculations is unsatisfactory.
