Ukrainians in World Mechanics. O. M. Guz – Founder of Linearized Theory of Elasticity

The article provides brief information about the most famous Ukrainian scientists in the world of mechanics, who worked in Ukraine or were recognized in other countries, or were born and lived outside Ukraine. The contribution of the founders of the linearized theory of elasticity, the Belgian Maurice Biot and Ukrainian Oleksandr Guz, to the development of this theory, is shown. The main provisions of the linearized theory of elasticity are briefly described. The main facts of international recognition of O. Guz are indicated.
