Deconstruction and career psychology
摘要
Deconstruction is employed to examine texts for underlying contradictions and bias to add to interpretation and meaning. Derrida’s perspective of deconstruction is described, which challenges truth claims and also provides tools for the examination of the words and concepts used in career psychology. Emphasis is placed on the binary in deconstruction but also on terms such as undecidables, différance, trace, and supplements. It is argued that deconstruction in career psychology, critical career psychology, and, specifically, narrative career counseling need to be more fully explained and developed. Career psychologists are urged to consider incorporating Derrida’s deconstruction in their work.
